中國各城市在2015年左右競相蓋摩天大樓，但建摩天大樓除了需要龐大資金、工時長之外，消防和抗震等各方面都需要特別審查與規劃，許多高樓建案因此停擺，出現許多爛尾樓。之後中國在2020年祭出新政策，規定一般不得新建500公尺以上建築。
