根據美國郵政署公告聲明，目前美國CDC沒有證據公布指出COVID-19會透過郵遞傳染。
而據新聞報導，紐約郵局確實有爆發群聚感染，但這是因為工作上無法維持社交距離而導致群聚感染。

為什麼郵務人員和郵政警察的感染率這麼高，而且有愈趨嚴重的狀況呢？派駐下曼哈頓郵政總部工作的郵政警察麥可．普萊斯向中央廣播電台表示，平常郵差們必須走遍大街小巷與大樓公寓投遞信件包裹，感染「新型冠狀病毒」的機率高確實勢所難免，再加上郵務人員整理收發郵件時，由於郵件數量龐大，通常都是並肩工作，根本沒有辦法隔出安全的「社交距離」，因此若有一人感染，其他人就陷入危險。

報導寫到的是這些郵政人員沒有手套與口罩等等個人健康管理用品，可能是藉由飛沫傳染，而不是病毒留在信件上。而台灣關務署特別向疫情指揮中心詢問，回應指出目前並無證據顯示病毒會殘留在包裹上，請民眾放心；WHO官網也回應強調，新型冠狀病毒難以在信封或紙箱上存活，因此不會有被傳染的疑慮。
