「65歲退休，平均只能再活18個月」的說法並無足夠科學證據，且多方表示不同立場：

■文中說這是Dr. Ephrem Cheng的《Age at Retirement vs. Life Span》研究，但學術期刊中查無此論文。

■波音公司亦曾澄清此說法，另外不同產業的研究也指出不同於「越晚退休活越短」的觀點：

①波音公司曾發布澄清稿，說明波音員工的退休年齡與壽命並不相關；且退休年齡與壽命的數字多年來屢有波動，轉傳訊息中的數字並非事實。

②2005年刊於BMJ期刊Shan P Tsai等人的論文，則針對石化產業的員工進行調查，反而發現55歲退休的員工的死亡率比繼續工作的員工更高。

③1978年刊於J Gerontol期刊S G Haynes等人的論文，針對輪胎工人研究，則認為「退休前的健康狀況」是唯一預測提前退休後生存率的唯一重要指標。
