2010年《紐約科學院年報》上的研究的確主張欠缺關節負荷、或過度負荷,都會導致軟骨退化,適量活動反而能維持軟骨的完整性;而軟骨的破壞來自於發炎性細胞激素刺激了會降解軟骨細胞外基質成分的基質金屬蛋白酶、聚集蛋白聚醣酶產生。
