另外，也確實有研究指出，沖馬桶不蓋馬桶蓋確實會產生懸浮在空中的氣溶膠，上頭可能會帶有病原體；蓋上馬桶蓋之後，氣溶膠會稍微較少，但還是會由馬桶蓋與馬桶之間的縫隙中滲出。因此，研究者提出的解方是，應改善公共廁所的通風，避免氣溶膠累積。
