假的。NCC發出新聞稿針對部分媒體報導稱學者反對提高假新聞罰則內容「嚴正澄清」，表示現行《廣播電視法》或《衛星廣播電視法》早於2016年就訂定最高可處2百萬元罰則，並得令其停止播送節目、採取必要措施等，現階段並無所謂提高罰則情事，該報導並非事實。
