印度國家指南中不推薦使用伊維菌素。儘管體外研究發現，伊維菌素是可抑制新冠病毒複製，但是要在體內達到這種效果，所需的劑量遠超過一般使用的劑量。即使印度公衛部門在新冠肺炎治療指引建議使用伊維菌素，也無法達到「病例數下降」之預防作用。
