因為台灣對於抗生素的使用管制很嚴格，生長激素是不被允許使用的。即使是以抗生素來治療乳房炎等疾病，酪農都會嚴格遵守停藥期，因為現行台灣的收乳情況是乳品工廠到戶收乳，是多家酪農戶的牛乳置於同一乳車中，一旦被驗出抗生素殘留，則整車牛乳全部不收，並會追出肇因的酪農負起全部賠償責任。
