眼藥膏應點在下眼瞼處，避免碰到眼球。正確的方式應在清潔雙手後，輕拉下眼瞼，眼睛朝上看，輕擠出一點藥膏塗抹在眼瞼1/3長度左右(如下圖)，然後閉上眼睛稍微轉動眼球，休息2-5分鐘，讓藥膏在眼球表面均勻分布，藥膏若有溢出眼眶時，可用衛生紙擦拭，但不可擦拭藥膏的瓶口。
