微波爐加熱雞蛋會造成雞蛋爆開的原因是生雞蛋因為蛋殼含水量極少,蛋黃蛋白含水量非常多,微波時間一久,蛋裡的水變成蒸汽加上蛋殼不透氣使得內部氣壓增加,於是雞蛋就爆炸了。微波加熱會產生蒸汽,急速膨脹的氣體讓內部壓力急遽升高,所以密閉物體勿放進微波爐,有爆裂危險。除了整顆帶殼雞蛋之外,帶皮水果、加蓋閉合或密封式的餐盒、保鮮膜覆蓋食物,都不適合放入微波爐加熱。微波加熱時水不流動,只是溫度升高,有可能超過了沸點還不開,但是水溫度其實已經非常高了,只要有一點兒擾動,就會突然沸騰。
