人體有些細胞可以自我增生修復組織，但是有些組織如中樞神經系統（腦、脊隨）其細胞就是不會增生的。另外健康細胞的分裂次數也有其極限，沒有限制無限分裂的細胞很可能是癌化的細胞，其增生反而會對身體造成致命的影響。
