並不是一洗就爆炸，但其實在許多洗衣機的說明中，也有明確標示不能清洗羽絨衣，或其他防水材質衣物，避免危險，羽絨衣應該慢慢風乾。
洗衣機旋轉時，羽絨衣內氣體無法釋放，尼龍材質、羽絨與洗衣機桶壁間可能產生靜電，當靜電累積到臨界點時可能會誘發爆炸。
