近視與遠視都是屈光不正，讓遠處的影像無法順利落在視網膜上，而老花眼則是看近時的據焦能力降低。老花眼與近視、遠視、散光或是視力正常皆無關，老花眼是一種退化，會發生在每一種族群身上，差別只在於原本視力正常的人和遠視的人，比較容易察覺到自己出現老花的症狀。因此無法透過一根手指治療或是恢復。
