新京報引述香港大學醫學院微生物系教授張其威表示，目前雖然還沒有檢測到活病毒，僅是核酸檢測呈陽性，但是「有活病毒的機率非常高」；因此，新型冠狀病毒也有可能透過糞便途徑傳播，或是糞便裡的病毒形成氣溶膠（固態懸浮粒子）再傳播。
