鐵氟龍Teflon為聚四氟乙烯(polytetrafluoroethylene) PTFE) 之商標名，在攝氏250度以下使用鐵氟龍，理論上都是安全的，然而鐵氟龍過熱產生的煙會讓人產生類似感冒的症狀 (polymer fume fever)不過很快就會恢復。450度以上產生的煙含全氟異丁烯Perfluoroisobutene (PFIB),是一種被化學武器公約（Chemical Weapons Convention）列管的有毒氣體，刺激呼吸道引起咳嗽，嚴重造成肺水腫，甚至死亡。聽起來很可怕，但是不沾鍋發明至今，並沒有因吸入所產生的全氟異丁烯致死的案例。
