總統府指出，所有外交部的第一線同仁都已經盡最大的力量，努力到最後一刻，因此，沒有辭職的問題。吳釗燮說中國再次用金錢外交，承諾華而不實的鉅額援助，收買少數政客，讓索國政府趕在中國國慶前通過斷交決議，目的就是打擊台灣，傷害台灣人民，刻意在總統跟立委大選前進行攻擊，影響選舉的企圖昭然若揭，政府予以強力譴責。
