洛神花，其名稱是由英名Roselle音譯而來，學名為Hibiscus sabdariffa Linnaeus，又稱「洛神葵」、「洛濟葵」、「山茄」、「紅葵」，屬錦葵科(Malvaceae)木槿屬的一年生灌木。傳統的醫學上認為洛神花花萼具清熱、解渴、止咳、降血壓之效，可治中暑、咳嗽、酒醉、高血壓。洛神花在體外試驗顯示其水萃物具有很強之降血脂(Chen et al., 2003)
