莊人祥表示，由於紐西蘭籍機師Ct值24.9，病毒量偏高，血清抗體也是陽性，預估早在11月底飛往美國期間就被感染，12月12日執勤期間仍在發病10天內，處於有傳染力的階段，加上機師在航程期間均處於密閉空間，不僅時間長且有部分時間為無防護接觸（喝水、進食等），加上未戴口罩，導致2名同事被傳染，研判此為一起機上群聚感染事件。
