台中市搭乘公車平均每天逾30萬人次，市府交通局長葉昭甫表示，明年元旦起台中市實施新公車優惠政策，限定市民、外籍配偶及在台中就讀的學生，仍享搭車前10公里免費，約30%的外縣市近9萬搭乘人次，明年起不再優惠。
葉昭甫指出，2021年將推出新的免費公車政策「乘車優惠、市民優先」不再把外縣市民眾納入免費對象。可享優惠的包括281萬台中市民、外籍配偶，還有10幾萬名外縣市來台中就讀的學生。
他表示，民眾可以拿既有的電子票券包括悠遊卡、一卡通、愛金卡等，民眾可以到各區公所、戶政所等窗口綁卡，經認證後就可以成為「交通任意卡」可享受原有的優惠，包括乘車前10公里免費、最多再付10元的雙十政策。
