鄭弘儀2015年說過自己父親是日本人，當過日本兵。
但是，基本上日治時期所有台灣人的國籍都是日本。鄭弘儀並沒有說自己民族認同是日本。
而且，二次世界大戰後期，日本因為戰事膠著，需要大量人力，開始大規模徵兵。所以日本兵中也有台灣人的存在。
犬養這個這個日本姓氏是「養狗的人」。若用中文見文望意，就變成罵人狗養的。
