林口長庚臨床毒物中心主任、腎臟科醫師顏宗海表示，網路上常有謠言說螢光劑致癌，這樣的說法是錯的，螢光劑並沒有被世界衛生組織認定為致癌物，也沒有相關的實驗證據顯示螢光劑會致癌，但螢光劑確實會對皮膚造成刺激性，尤其是孩童，目前台灣對面紙、紙餐巾的規定是「不可檢出遷移性螢光物質」。
