加拿大公共衛生局7月30日時,已確定美國進口洋蔥應是此次沙門氏菌爆發的來源,當局提醒加拿大中西部居民,應避免食用從美國進口的紅洋蔥,及任何可能含有進口紅洋蔥的食品,若無法確認食品中洋蔥的來源,也應停止食用、販售並丟棄。

1. 8月1日,美國聯邦調查局再追蹤源頭至加州的「Thomson International Inc.」公司,目前此公司已回收所有可能受感染的洋蔥。

2. 此波沙門氏菌感染主要發生於北美,6月中旬至8月1日,加拿大已有114病例、美國396起病例,沒有人死亡。感染通常在6到72個小時之間出現,包括發燒,發冷,腹瀉,腹痛,頭痛,暈眩,嘔吐等,有些染病者可能從幾天到幾周時間裏都有傳染性。
