根據 2008 年國家衛生研究院台灣第一份慢性腎臟病盛行率調查，國人罹患慢性腎臟性疾病患者高達十二％！平均每八人有一人，推估全國約有二百多萬名患者，但僅 2.5 %知道自己罹病。但這份研究時間久遠。
