2004年一篇針對一千多位參與者的睡眠研究指出,睡眠時數只有6小時的人,BMI最高,隨睡眠時數增加,BMI逐漸降低,到7.7小時為最低點,之後睡眠時數持續增加,BMI又開始升高。主流學界建議8小時是成年人一天所需睡眠時數。睡的過多或過少都不見得是好事。
