正確,史列西恩格於《營養學期刊》(Journal of Nutrition)發表不吃早餐的人可能增加罹患第二型糖尿病的風險,且部分影響與BMI相關。

This meta-analysis provides evidence that breakfast skipping is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, and the association is partly mediated by BMI.

這些實驗稱為「觀察研究」,研究者並沒有對受試者做出「請停止吃早餐」的指令,而是觀察受試者的自然狀態。因此無法釐清受試者是真的因為不吃早餐而變胖的,還是本來就缺乏健康意識而變胖的。
然而,關鍵在於所攝取之食物,早餐應攝取足夠營養,若早餐以高熱量非有益健康之食物替代,則攝取早餐仍可能導致肥胖。
